HRV & Heart Rate
HRV Data Not Updating
Why your HRV may be delayed and how to fix it

Welldo relies on Apple Watch data to analyze your recovery and stress. HRV (Heart Rate Variability) is recorded automatically by Apple Watch, but only under the right conditions.
Normally, your watch:
• Measures heart rate every minute
• Records HRV every 2–5 hours, when your body is calm and steady
If HRV isn’t updating, it usually means your watch wasn’t able to capture it.
When HRV can’t be recorded
Your Apple Watch may skip HRV measurements if:
• Low Power Mode is turned on
• The watch is locked
• The watch isn’t worn snugly on your wrist
• Your watch is running an older watchOS version (7 or earlier)
• You’re actively exercising
• You’re moving a lot (running, cycling, traveling by car, etc.)
These situations make it hard for the watch to detect accurate recovery signals.

Why heart rate matters first
HRV depends on consistent heart rate data. You can check if heart rate is updating: Health app → Browse → Heart → Heart Rate
If heart rate data is updating every minute, HRV should follow within a few hours—unless one of the conditions above is active.
If heart rate looks “stuck”
If heart rate data hasn’t updated for a while, here’s how to check what’s wrong:
1. Open the Heart Rate app on your Apple Watch
2. Stay still for a moment and wait
What happens next matters:
✅ Heart rate appears → The issue is likely connectivity → Try reconnecting or re-pairing your watch with your iPhone
❌ No heart rate detected → The watch may not be functioning correctly → Apple Support can help diagnose the issue
What this means for Welldo
Welldo reflects exactly what your Apple Watch records.
If HRV data is missing, it’s usually due to movement, settings, or connectivity—not the app itself.
Wearing your watch securely, especially during calm moments and sleep, helps ensure consistent HRV tracking and more accurate insights.
